Matthew 5:14-16. “You are the Light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, giving Light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your Light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” This is a valid statement. No matter what your childhood faith may have been, you were taught this when you were being raised. This biblical passage tells us to keep our Light shining.
As a foster kid, I had the luxury of having an inner source of wisdom unaffected by dogma. If you are reading my inspired writings, I already know, with you, the feeling of a consciousness of being a square peg in a round hole. I know the feeling of there being something more. Still, I instinctively knew this principle of teaching.
Spiritual teachers are telling us to be holders of the Light. Great! What the heck does that mean? When I was a little kid, way before TV, we would gather together around a brown box of a radio to listen via “airwaves” to Gangbusters, The Phantom, or Fairy Tale Theatre. If reception from the “airwaves” stopped, whichever grown-up was in charge would open the contraption. Screwed in were a series of crystals that looked like filiment light bulbs and if one were dark, the adult would wiggle it or replace it so it would light up, and reception would then go on. In my little kid mind, I envisioned humans being like this, plugged into the earth and being part of an immense light grid. I wasn’t wrong.
When we are told to be holders of the Light, we are essentially told to cultivate our personal Light. It is our most powerful way to direct our physical vehicle and consciousness. We can meditate and acknowledge and direct this part of our being. This is the visual part of the Divine within us we receive when animated at birth. Like the Law of Gravity, there is a law that says that Light always overcomes darkness. It is a time of significant change. Cultivate your Light- it is a necessity. You are indeed the Light of the World.
