IS EMPATHY ALL IT’S CRACKED UP TO BE?

OK, now that I’ve got your attention…          Everything is about balance.    In New Thought, we hear the word empath bandied about.   Oh, “he or she is an Empath,” or, “We must empathize with that person.”  Empathy means to participate in another’s distress fully. That vibration, that participation, is an energy barrier to healing. I cannot say more strongly that when you give your energy to feed the problem with your devout empathy, you interfere with the positive result you desire. Yes, observe the issue with profound love and non-judgment, but, as we say in the South, “Don’t get down and ‘waller’ in the mud.”

You may be aware that in Unity, there are Prayer Chaplains one can rely upon for healing prayer.   In Religious Science, there are Prayer practitioners. In every faith, there are individuals you can call on for prayer in your time of need.

The energetic premise behind this is that if you are in need, you likely are trapped in your anxiety, and it is hard to call forth your goal when the issue consumes you.    The prayer partner comes from a place where they have experienced observing healing.   They KNOW Divine Energy heals.   When they pray, they are praying from that knowing, from that God particle within themselves, and that is why their prayers are effective. When we are trapped in anxiety, it feels like we are praying to God – out there.

It is beautiful that we can love so deeply that we are that oneness of all that is.    What could be counter-productive is when we participate in the pain rather than being in a position of power as an observer.    It’s like when you are rushed to the Emergency Room; you do not want your doctor or nurse to be part of your pain; you want them to be above the fray to make accurate and informed decisions and facilitate the best result.
